Musical MergingsThis summer the United Singers have been extremely pleased and excited to work with the New Essex Choir (based in Barkingside) to produce two concerts, one in either location, to celebrate the joy of singing together.
Both concert proved to be great evenings of music, with live musicians accompanying the singers on both occasions. Our concert on our "home territory" was held in St Andrew's Church, accompanied by an 11-strong chamber orchestra, to an appreciative audience of around 100. The concert was made all the more possible by the generous support of the London Borough of Havering's Community Chest Funding project. Visit our new media page to see a snippet of one of the pieces from the concert. If you'd like a CD or DVD then email Tom Rodgers, our MD: [email protected] |

Adventageous! The United Singers presented their Christmas programme, with festive readings, to an audience of around 80 at the Hornchurch Methodist Church on December 11, 2022. The music was largely chosen by the members themselves and included some festive favourites but also choral pieces they had enjoyed performing in the past, before the pandemic of 2020/21. The choir were particularly pleased to welcome their new accompanist, Miss Cheuky Chan, who performed with them for the first time.
Roll on the summer of 2023 when the choir will be joining forces with the New Essex Choir for two very different concerts in both East London and Hornchurch! |
Popular Hits Of The 70's & '80sThe United Singers, with a superb band of musicians, presented their hits of the '70s and '80s songs to a very appreciative audience of over 120 on 9th July 2022. Songs ranged from John Denver's "Country Roads" to the Queen rock anthem "We Are The Champions", to beautiful renditions of "Bright Eyes" and "From A Distance", with a 70s Motown Medley thrown in there for good measure before finishing with a good ol' classic "Walking On Sunshine!". The audience were even dancing in the aisles, as they walked "like an Egyptian", as you'll see in the concert video which is in on our MEDIA page. Enjoy!

We Will Remember ThemThe United Singers were extremely proud to have presented their first concert since Christmas 2019 on Saturday 13th November at Holy Cross Church in Hornchurch.
This inaugural Remembrance Day concert from the United Singers, "We Will Remember Them", was a poignant and thought-provoking evening featuring a mixture of well-known and unusual music from the WW2 era plus some new compositions from their Musical Director based on poems written in the WW1 era. It included poetic readings, presented by members of the choir, and some dramatic interpretations of well-known war poems performed by local actor Neil Gray. The atmosphere created was described by some of the 90-strong audience as "magical" and "moving" with "wonderful arrangements". A great evening was had by all and it was hailed by some of the choir's regular fans as "the best yet!" Feel free to view our concert video (streamed via ZOOM) below to experience our show. Enjoy! |

"Faith Fauna" were two concerts performed by the combination of the United Singers, the United Youth Singers and the Hornchurch "Can't" Sing Choir in the summer of 2019. The first, at the Trinity URC, was produced in 34 degree heat, on the hottest day of the year, and the choirs managed admirably. The second, at the Hornchurch Methodist Church, was much more fun in more bearable temperatures.
So what was "Faith Fauna"? A mixture of sacred music - classical and contemporary - and a series of animal songs: from Bach & Vivaldi to Flanders & Swann and The Beatles. |
The Colours Of Christmas was the United Singers' Christmas offering in 2019. Its programme, varied but challenging, explored pieces associated with the colours of the season. Our audience, of just about 80, enjoyed performances of our chosen pieces, both traditional and contemporary, as well as three new compositions by members of the choir & the MD.

Saturday 23rd June and Sunday 8th July 2018: A Musical Meander
The second and final concert of the summer season for the United Singers Choral Ensemble was performed at St George's Church in Harold Hill to a smaller, but just as receptive, audience.
Being in the middle of the summer's heatwave it was a warm affair that saw the United Singers and the United Youth Singers reprise some of their best numbers from their concert on the 23rd June as well as having AnZhuo Rodgers sing "My Favourite Things" as an extra solo. The second half, just as poignant as in June, was received extremely well (especially the composition "In Flanders Fields" by Tom Rodgers). The United Singers Choral Ensemble thanks the Parish of St George's for their excellent hosting of our concert. A truly lovely, though hot, afternoon was had by all. |
The United Singers and the United Youth Singers delivered a superb summer evening's concert on Saturday 23rd June 2018 in the Upminster Baptist Church to an audience of around 200.
The standard of the music was commented upon as being of the highest quality; both choirs sang really well but a special mention from many spoke of the confidence and the joyous singing of the Youth Singers. The audience also enjoyed some brilliant solos from E.Rui Rodgers singing "Skimbleshanks" and then a raunchy duet from Hannah Ambrose and Becky Hunt who sang "Take Me or Leave Me". They also were wowed by the confidence of Imogen Hodges who took the role of Matilda in "When I Grow Up" and made it her own. The accompanying orchestra were superb and supported the choir with ease and made the concert a really special occasion. |

9th December 2017 : An International Journey To Christmas

The United Singers delivered two Christmas concerts in December 2017; our first at St Peter's in South Weald, where our first performance was joined by the school children of St Peter's Primary School. The church was well-filled by an appreciative audience who enjoyed a wide variety of carols from around the world, including one in French and one in German! The children sang really well and it was a pleasure to have them join us for a couple of jointly-sung pieces.
Our second performance was at St Mary's Church in Hornchurch which was another lovely experience for both choir and audience. It is always good to perform in different venues that give us different challenges in performing our repertoire.
We are pleased to announce that we were able to raise just over £500 for our two charitable causes. Come and join us at our next performance in the summer of 2018!

24th June 2017: Midsummer Singing |
9th July 2017: Summertime Singing |
Midsummer Singing was received by an incredibly appreciative audience of around 140 people on Saturday 24th June at Holy Cross Church, Hornchurch. The varied programme, accompanied by a superb 15-strong chamber orchestra, was enjoyed by all who attended. It was commented that the music we presented emoted a lovely mix of joy and poignancy. Many members of the audience told the United Singers that they witnessed a concert with a strong "feel good factor": something needed at this time in the United Kingdom. United Singers would like to thank all those who came to support us and all those involved in the organisation of the concert itself, especially the musicians who accompanied them so well.

Mellifluous Midsummer Melodies!Mellifluous Midsummer Melodies was a great success. This early evening concert featured a wide selection of music from both the sacred and secular genres of the choral repertoire as well as a variety of instrumental and solo vocal music, including two pieces performed by local professional oboist Hannah Moseley; United Singers was accompanied by a small, high quality, orchestral ensemble which enhanced the evening's entertainment.
United Singers sang their hearts out and produced such a good standard of performance that we received many compliments of delight and high praise from those attending the concert. Recordings of the concert can be heard by clicking the button below. Enjoy! |

Contemplating Christmas
This was our inaugural concert! We were pleased to offer an afternoon of thoughtful reflection upon the story of Christmas using a mixture of words and music. This concert was the culmination of three months' hard work, in about eight rehearsals. We performed no fewer than three new carols penned by Tom Rodgers, our Director of Music.
We were pleased to see an audience of over 120 attend. You can click the link below to listen to our concert. |
