We have always recorded our concerts, for posterity. On this page, you can view or listen to the music we've created since 2020.
2023 : "Harbour" from our recent summer concert, "Musical Mergings"
|
"Harbour" is composed by folk singer/songwriter Anna Tabbush (who granted Tom Rodgers, our MD, permission to orchestrate her song for this concert) was originally a musical response to the Syrian Refugee crisis in 2020. She says “with the appalling response by the British Press and government to the tragedies that were happening at sea, I felt mine was a lonely voice in wanting a more welcoming and compassionate country to live in… Harbour is more popular than ever now that the people of the world are feeling driven to the millions of refugees fleeing Ukraine.” Since then, the UK has welcomed, with warmth and compassion, many Ukrainian refugees. Upon watching this rendition of "Harbour", which has gained much fame across the UK this year, she classed it as "gorgeous".

2022 : "My Dearest Treasure" from our Christmas concert, "Adventageous"
"My Dearest Treasure" is composed by our MD, Tom Rodgers, who was inspired by The Coventry Carol, and the idea of Mary, Mother of God, cradling and singing to the Jesus child. This recording features Susan Cummins as soloist.

2022 : "Popular Hits Of The '70s and '80s"
|
The USCE summer concert of 2022 was the second in the thematic journey that Tom Rodgers, our MD, took the choir through over the course of a couple of years. This concert was the first with a typical "live" band of popular instruments - piano, bass, guitar & drums (plus synth) - that the choir sang along to. What a concert it was, full of joy and reminiscing back to the youth of many of our audience members.
Credit to the Upminster Baptist Church who streamed our concert live for us on the day and recorded it all, too! |
2021 : "We Will Remember Them"
|
Our first "live" concert following the Coronavirus Pandemic lockdowns, "We Will Remember Them" is a show reflecting upon the commemorations of Remembrance Sunday, focussing on the conflicts of both World Wars through music, poetry and drama.
It features songs well-known and forgotten, as well as three compositions from our MD, Tom Rodgers; it also features the brilliant local actor Neil Gray, who brought a whole new dimension to a United Singers production. |
2021 : "Sanctus" from "Paradise Mass" part of our Remotely Recorded Spring CD
Tom Rodgers, our MD, composed an SATB traditional Latin Mass but in a modern popular style, The Virtual United Singers learned their parts, and recorded them individually at home, sending in their contributions to Tom to piece together. This is the third of the four movements from the work.

2020 : "The Christmas Way" - our Remotely Recorded Christmas Concert
|
"The Christmas Way" is a concert programme devised by United Singers' MD & Founder, Tom Rodgers, that was first performed in December 2016. In 2020, the Year of the Pandemic, the United Singers have been unable to meet so they (and some friends from other choirs) created a virtual ensemble to record a new version of "The Christmas Way". From Tom: "Well done to everyone who has taken part! Many thanks to all you - especially those who had to overcome a fear of technology - for taking part. You've all done brilliantly! Special thanks to our soloists, Susan, E.Rui & AnZhuo. Also to our wonderful narrators: John, Neil & Juliet."

2020 : Cliff Richard Medley from our Remotely Recorded Summer Concert
|
In July 2020, the United Singers featured as an act in the Havering Arts Festival Online with a A Sir Cliff Richard "Combo" - a medley of his most well-known pieces from the 1950s and 1960s, recorded by members of the choir during the first CoronaVirus lockdown through recording their parts individually and emailing them to our MD, Tom Rodgers, to put together like an audio jigsaw.... Enjoy!
