Today was an excellent opportunity to pull apart the pieces a little, in terms of looking at each one with more "performance" detail. We talked, mostly, about things such as watching me properly for excellent entries and coming off accurately. We talked about remembering all the techniques I've taught you about tuning. We talked about listening to each other so sections tune really well into each other and the notes they are singing. There are some pieces where certain sections must ensure they sing their parts accurately - and sometimes singing the tune correctly! Please spend time listening to the recordings, also referring back to my MD notes from last week and keep working hard individually to ensure you know your words well, you know your tunes well and that you - from next Sunday - look up at me a lot more! We are at the stage that, come next Sunday, I won't be able to necessarily go over pieces to "fix" anything. It is now down to you to sort that out. Next week will be about the technical bits right with a focus on our performance.
Please consider these things, as well as listening to everything we've covered today:
Sound All Clear - Sopranos
Tomorrow - Everybody for the last verse, re tuning. Basses you need to check your part in this section too. Sopranos, you need to ensure accurately rhythmic delivery for "And I'll be with you".
Roses Of Picardy - Everybody for the accurate melody at the end but Sopranos, particularly, you MUST get this right.
Keep The Home Fires - Remember dynamics, Altos be sure of your C#.
Flanders Fields - every part must go over the things covered in this extensive analysis and improvement points for this song.
Lest We Forget - OPENING must be accurate. No waiting on the "L" of "lest". Altos - you need to get your solo right. Please pay more attention to the dynamics, especially re Sopranos.
I'll Remember You - Verses need to be much more confident, entries accurate. Sopranos - please ensure the word "remember" is always sung beautifully in tune.
We'll Meet Again - no scooping Sopranos! Make sure you are confident with the 2nd time bar going into the ending.
Always Be An England - everyone must sing this smoothly in the places where you're supposed to, when the accompaniment is "march-like". Also - make sure you all know the ending REALLY well.
Coming In - generally very good. But we need to keep the opening in tune; I'll think about how best to do this during the week. Otherwise, listen to the recordings from today for more insights.
White Cliffs - very nice guys, very nice; Aahs are lovely - be confident with them, but controlled. Don't forget the dynamics in the bit that you actually sing words - make it musical and pay attention to them!

A good rehearsal with Cheuky accompanying! Well done! However, it did give me the opportunity to listen carefully to the recordings and make notes that will help you. Most of them refer to remembering tuning techniques, to balance between (and within) parts and to general detail that can be clarified. We want this performance to surpass even that of the summer concert. Push yourselves to be better and listen more, and to look up more and be supremely confident in what you are delivering. Please read through the notes below carefully whilst listening to the recordings. Then use the guides to help you if you need to work further at home on your parts. Thank you.

Today we took apart "Lest We Forget" and rebuilt it, as well as explaining how to read the score so to know where each of the four beats of the bar lands. Similar work done with "Coming In On A Wing". Checked through the final two, to make sure everything was working OK. Sopranos were reminded they have to work hard to produce a good sound, always remembering the vocal techniques they've been taught, particularly relating to good vowel shapes and singing "northwards" - not to mention good breathing!
