When United Singers was formed in the autumn of 2015 one of the most important objectives, set out by our founding director and committee, was that the ensemble had to be an inclusive organisation within the local community and open to anyone who enjoys singing.
As part of our development as a community group the committee wanted to ensure that there would be nothing to prevent anyone from joining; most importantly, that potential members might be dissuaded from singing with us due to any financial concerns regarding meeting our fee requirements.
In 2016 the United Singers Choir Committee implemented a bursary fund created from voluntary donations generously given by existing members. It was stipulated that the fund would be closely recorded, monitored and kept separate from any proceeds that United Singers receive throughout each academic year.
The bursary scheme is open to all but is designed for members, potential or existing, whose personal financial situation may prevent them from affording the full fees. The bursary scheme would subsidise the applicant’s membership fee, to a lesser or greater extent, as needs require upon proper application.
The United Singers Committee would like the bursary fund to continue the aims and objectives of the ensemble regarding charitable donations. Hence our decision that if, at the end of the academic year, the bursary has funds remaining these funds will be either donated to charity, kept in the bursary for the next academic year or returned to donors.
If you are singing with us, or wish to sing with us, and are concerned about affording our fees PLEASE contact us! We really want to help you to be a comfortable, happy, member of our ensemble.
